India Launches Rs 500 Crore Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme EMPS 2024

In a significant push towards sustainable transportation, the Indian government has rolled out the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS 2024) with an outlay of Rs 500 crore, set to kickstart from April 1. This initiative marks a new chapter in India’s electric vehicle (EV) narrative, designed to propel the country towards a greener future. As the curtain falls on the second phase of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME-II) programme on March 31, 2024, EMPS 2024 emerges as a beacon of hope for the EV sector, extending support until the end of July.

The scheme is poised to make electric mobility more accessible and affordable for the Indian masses, targeting the support of 3,72,215 electric vehicles through generous subsidies. With incentives scaling up to Rs 10,000 for two-wheelers, Rs 25,000 for small three-wheelers like e-rickshaws and e-carts, and up to Rs 50,000 for larger three-wheelers, EMPS 2024 is a testament to India’s commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This financial aid not only lowers the cost barrier for potential EV buyers but also stimulates domestic production, setting a precedent for sustainable development and innovation in the automotive industry.
